Charles L. McGill Obituary

Charles L. McGill, a native Daytonian, departed this life on April 4, 2024. He was born June 9, 1939, to the union of the late Dorothy (Banks) and Harrison McGill.  He graduated from Roosvelt High School, class of 1957.  Charles went to the Navy after graduation and served on the destroyer USS Blandy 943.  He also graduated from Central State University, magna cum laude.

After his military service, Charles worked for the US Postal Service for about three years.  He was then employed by and retired from Ohio Bell/AT&T.  He was a faithful member of The Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1988.

Charles left a remarkable impression on everyone he met.  A very wise, kind, and gracious man; he never took anyone for granted and “thank you” was always on his lips.  He always had a smile.  Oh my gosh, was he funny and witty.  So much so, that he would laugh at himself.

Although he had only two children of his own, he was a substitute father to many.  He counseled many of Craig’s and Julia’s friends, relatives, as well as young church members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife and mother of his children, Jerrie Bascome McGill; brothers, Lonnie, Harrison, and James McGill; granddaughter, Kelly McGill.

Charles leaves to cherish loving memories, wife, Debra; son, Craig McGill (GA); daughter, Julia (Michael) Granger (CA); step-daughter, Tasha Ward (GA); grandchildren, Brandon (Kierra (fiancée)) McGill (TN), Makaila (OH), Madison (CA), and Julian Granger (CA), Douglas and Emory Ward (GA); great-grandchildren Korie, Alixandir, Kaison, Amari, Brinx, Minaetta, Walker, A.J. and Keylan; special nephews, nieces, forever friend, Donald (Gloria) Jackson, and many other relatives and friends.

The angels shouted and the bells were rung as our brother transitioned and his new life begun.

The Mercy of God and his wonderful Grace blessed us so with his sweet kind face. Though our hearts grieve as Brother McGill always believed "That someday God our most High King" would call him home underneath his wings.

We thank you Lord for we can't hear it as our Lord says " Well done McGill now embrace thee with my spirit"....

AMEN AMEN AMEN

Love Sista Patti Johnson
