WAYS, Mary "Frances" Cooper
WAYS, Mary “Frances” Cooper was born in Raywick, KY from the union of Joseph and Anna Cooper in 1928. On Friday, October 6, 2017, she departed to be with the Lord.
 
Her Family moved from Kentucky to Dayton, Ohio in the early 40’s where she met and eventually married the late Harry Ways Jr. Together they raised a beautiful family and created an unforgettable family legacy.
 
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry Ways Jr., whom she supported tirelessly over 45 years with his contracting business (Ways Construction Company).
Mary was also preceded in death by her parents Joseph B. and Anna M. Brannon Cooper, and her siblings: Rev. Joseph W. Cooper of California; Charles H. Cooper; James E. Cooper Sr.; Thomas L. “Sam” Cooper; Rev. Dorothy Johnson; Anne M. Bledsoe; Jean Johnson, a half brother Joseph Cooper of Indiana; and, a granddaughter Jazzmin L. Ways.
 
A 35-year retiree from Inland/ General Motors, where she was loved by her co-workers and deemed special by them for her delicious culinary treats.  Mary was always a proud, spirited lady with a great sense of humor, who would respond with a quick witty comment. Almost always delivering the right words at the right time. She was a giving and loving soul who comforted others with her kindness and generosity. She was loved and well respected by all who knew her. She truly devoted her life to family, friends and her faith.
 
A devout Catholic who dedicated a lifetime of services as a member of St. John, St James–Resurrection and St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Churches. She was always busy and volunteered her talents with several church ministries. She was a respected member of the church and known for her tasty cooking skills.  Her church family was her life, her love and her passion until Alzheimer’s disease prevented her participation.
 
Mary was a former member of The Senior Women’s League, Inland Retirees Club, A charter member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, a Third Degree member of Court # 353 and Fourth Degree member, Gracious Lady Evelyn Chargois Chapter # 46.
 
She leaves to cherish: Five children, two daughters; Iris Nita (Roland) Winburn, Lucretia Darlene Mann, three sons; Harry Keith Ways III, Christopher E. Ways Sr., Timothy S. Ways.
Thirteen grandchildren:  Michael (Lori) Coleman, Karma Winburn (Kenny) Rule, RoShawn Winburn (Lisa), Aubrey Ways, Eric Ways, TreShawn Ways, Christopher Ways II, Marcus Ways, Jourdan S. Ways, Joshua B. Ways, Sophie Ways and Isabella Ways. Nine great grandchildren: Lakeia, Cameron and Jayda Coleman, Gabriela Torres Winburn, Alexandra Torres, Robert Roland Rule, Chloe Christiana Rule, Brooklyn A. Ways, Queen Ways and Josiah Ways.
Three generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and wonderful friends,
whom she referred to as “fronds,” (these were the friends she had a great fondness for).
 
She will be greatly missed by all.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017, at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 519 Liscum Drive, Dayton, Ohio.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. St. Peter Claver Services at 10:15 a.m. Father Emmanuel Fale, Celebrant; Interment Calvary Cemetery.
