SUMLIN, Frances Leta was born to the union of the late John and Sallie (Allen) Stringer on January 21, 1940 in Columbia, Kentucky. She departed this life to be with the Lord on September 10, 2017. Frances was a graduate of Roosevelt High School class of 1959. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. Frances had a nurturing spirit and was always willing to mother the neighborhood kids. She believed in equality and was active in the Civil Rights Movement. She loved fishing, reading, and fellowshipping with family and friends. She retired after 30 years of service from Ameritech and retired after 15 years of service from General Electric. She cherished and nurtured her relationship with her granddaughter Chloe. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Sumlin; father John Stringer; mother Sallie (Allen) Stringer; sister, Shirley Belcher; brothers Kenneth and John Stringer. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Kenya Sumlin – Bronaugh (Phillip); granddaughter Chloe Alexandria Bronaugh; sisters Cora Crenshaw, Phyllis Bayless, and Tanya Stringer; brother, Bill (Janice) Stringer Sr., all of Dayton, Ohio; dear friends Polly Fluellen, Los Angeles, CA, Vivian Jackson Paolo, CA, Vicky Carr, Hawaii, and Kenya Shumpert, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Greater Love Christian Church, 2345 Lakeview Ave. Bishop Michael Barringer officiating. The family will receive friends 10-11 A.M. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
